Frequently Asked Questions
How do I rearrange pages in a PDF?
Open the PDF, then drag the page thumbnails into the order you want, or focus a page and use the move left and move right buttons. Click Save and the reorganized PDF is downloaded.
Are my PDF files uploaded to your servers?
No. Thumbnails are rendered and the new document is built by JavaScript in your browser. Your files are never uploaded, stored or logged.
Can I delete or duplicate pages while reordering?
Yes. Every thumbnail has buttons to duplicate the page, rotate it 90 degrees or remove it. Changes are only applied when you save, so you can experiment freely.
Can I insert pages from another PDF?
Yes. Use Add pages from another PDF to append the pages of a second document, then drag them to where they belong. You can add several documents this way.
Does organizing a PDF reduce its quality?
No. Pages are copied as they are into a new document, so text stays selectable and images keep their resolution. Nothing is re-rendered or re-compressed.
Can I organize a password-protected PDF?
Not while it is locked. Encrypted PDFs cannot be read without the password, so the tool reports them. Remove the protection in your PDF reader first and open the unlocked copy.
How the PDF organizer works
Each page of your document is drawn as a small thumbnail with Mozilla's pdf.js, so you can see what you are moving instead of guessing from page numbers. While you rearrange, the tool only keeps a list of instructions — "page 4 of file A, rotated 90°", "page 1 of file B" and so on. Nothing is modified until you save.
On save, the open-source pdf-lib library creates a new document and copies every page in your chosen order, together with the fonts and images it uses. Because pages are copied rather than re-rendered, the output is lossless: text remains selectable and vector drawings stay sharp. Rotation is stored as page metadata, so turning a page does not touch its content either.
How to reorder PDF pages
- Open your PDF. Thumbnails appear progressively, so long documents are usable right away.
- Move pages. Drag a thumbnail onto the position it should take. Prefer the keyboard? Tab to a page and use the ← and → buttons.
- Edit pages. Duplicate a page (for example, a form you need twice), rotate a scan that came in sideways, or delete blank and unwanted pages.
- Insert other documents. Append pages from another PDF and drag them into place — an easy way to slot an annex into the middle of a report.
- Save. The new file is named
name-organized.pdf; your original stays untouched.
When page organizing helps
- Double-sided scans — a feeder that scans all fronts and then all backs produces pages in the order 1, 3, 5, 2, 4, 6. Drag them back into sequence.
- Reports and proposals — move the executive summary to the front or push appendices to the end without re-exporting from Word.
- Application packs — insert a signed form or certificate between specific pages of a dossier.
- Cleaning up — drop separator sheets, blank pages and duplicate scans before sending a file.
- Printing booklets and handouts — duplicate a cover or instruction sheet so each section starts with it, or move a landscape table next to the page that refers to it.
- Building a single submission — open the main document, append the supporting PDFs and arrange everything in the order the reviewer expects, all in one pass instead of merging and splitting repeatedly.
Tips and limitations
- Pages keep their own size, so mixing A4 and Letter pages from different files is fine.
- Bookmarks (the outline panel) are not rebuilt, because their targets change when pages move. Internal links to removed pages stop working.
- Duplicated pages share nothing with the original after saving; editing one later does not affect the other.
- Encrypted PDFs must be unlocked first. The tool tells you when a file is password-protected.
- Only need to drop a few pages or pull some out into a new file? The split tool is quicker for that.
