Why Process PDFs in Your Browser?

Most online PDF services upload your file to their servers, process it there and keep a copy for a period of time. That is a real risk for contracts, payslips, medical reports or anything with personal data. StackUtils PDF tools take a different approach: the processing code is downloaded to your browser and runs on your own device. The file is read from your disk, transformed in memory and saved straight back to your downloads folder. Nothing is sent over the network.

Under the hood we use two mature open-source libraries: pdf-lib to create and modify PDF documents (merging, splitting, rotating, stamping text) and Mozilla's pdf.js — the engine inside Firefox's PDF viewer — to read and render pages as images.

Which PDF Tool Do I Need?

Tips for Working with PDFs

  • Scanned vs. digital PDFs: a scanned PDF is a picture of a page. It can be merged, rotated and compressed, but its text cannot be edited or copied without OCR.
  • Order of operations: merge first, then delete or rotate pages, add page numbers last so the numbering matches the final document, and compress at the very end.
  • Keep the original: every tool creates a new file, so your source PDF is never modified.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these PDF tools really free?

Yes. Every PDF tool on StackUtils is free with no sign-up, no daily limits and no watermarks added to your files.

Are my PDF files uploaded to a server?

No. Merging, splitting, compressing, rotating and converting all happen inside your browser using pdf-lib and pdf.js. Your documents never leave your device, which makes the tools safe for contracts, invoices and other private files.

Is there a file size limit?

Files up to 50 MB are supported. Because processing uses your device's memory, very large or image-heavy PDFs are faster on a desktop computer than on a phone.

Can I edit password-protected PDFs?

No. Encrypted PDFs cannot be opened without the password. Remove the protection in your PDF reader first, then use any of the tools.

Do the tools work offline or on mobile?

They work in any modern browser — Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari on desktop, Android and iOS. Once a page has loaded, processing does not need the network.
