Frequently Asked Questions

How do I rotate a PDF and save it permanently?

Load the PDF, rotate the pages you need and click Apply. The downloaded file stores the new orientation, so it opens correctly in every PDF reader, not just the one you used.

Can I rotate only one page of a PDF?

Yes. Click any thumbnail to turn that page 90° clockwise, or use the arrows under it. Pages you do not touch keep their current orientation.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server when I rotate it?

No. Thumbnails are drawn and the rotation is applied inside your browser. The file never leaves your device and nothing is stored after you close the tab.

Does rotating a PDF reduce its quality?

No. The tool only changes the page's rotation setting; text, vector graphics and images are not re-rendered, so quality and selectable text are fully preserved.

Why does my PDF still look sideways after rotating it in my viewer?

Most viewers only rotate the on-screen view and do not save it. To fix the file itself, the rotation has to be written into the PDF, which is what this tool does.

Can I rotate a password-protected PDF?

Not without the password. Encrypted PDFs cannot be modified, so the tool warns you. Remove the protection in your PDF reader first and load the unlocked copy.

How PDF rotation actually works

Every page in a PDF has a /Rotate entry that tells viewers how to display it: 0, 90, 180 or 270 degrees clockwise. When a scanner or phone app saves a page sideways, the content is fine — only that number is wrong. This tool reads the current value of each page, adds the rotation you choose and writes the new value back with pdf-lib.

Because nothing is redrawn, rotation is lossless and instant: text remains selectable, links keep working and images keep their original resolution. The file size barely changes. This is also why rotating in Preview, Edge or Chrome's viewer often "doesn't stick" — those viewers usually rotate the view only, while this tool rewrites the page setting inside the file.

How to rotate PDF pages

  1. Open the file. Drop a PDF onto the upload area. Thumbnails appear progressively, so you can start working before every page is drawn.
  2. Rotate single pages. Click a thumbnail to turn it 90° clockwise; click again for 180° or 270°. The ↺ and ↻ buttons rotate left or right.
  3. Or rotate everything. Use the "All pages" buttons when the whole document came out sideways. Reset clears all pending changes.
  4. Apply and download. Rotated pages are highlighted with their new angle. Click Apply to save a copy named -rotated.pdf.

Typical situations

  • Mixed scans — a stack of documents fed through a scanner often contains a few landscape or upside-down pages among portrait ones.
  • Spreadsheets and diagrams — wide tables exported in portrait are easier to read when that one page is turned to landscape.
  • Phone-camera PDFs — scanning apps sometimes guess orientation wrongly; fix it before sending the file to a client or authority.
  • Printing and presentations — a correctly oriented file prints the right way round and displays properly on projectors and tablets.

Tips

  • Rotation only works in 90° steps — that is a limitation of the PDF format itself. Slightly skewed scans need deskewing software.
  • For documents with hundreds of pages, thumbnails take a moment to render, but you can use the "All pages" buttons immediately.
  • Form fields and annotations rotate together with their page.
  • Pages that already carry a rotation are handled correctly: the tool adds your change to the existing angle instead of overwriting it, so a page stored at 90° and turned right ends up at 180°.
  • Thumbnails show the page exactly as viewers will display it, including any rotation already stored in the file, so what you see is what you get.
  • If the document also contains blank or duplicate pages, remove them afterwards with the delete pages tool before sharing.
